Being Creative in More Ways than One

So I've never really been big on the whole 'New Year's Resolution' thing. Don't get me wrong, I've made lists in previous years, on how I was going to work out and become fit, start waking up early and take advantage of the full day ahead of me, even dedicating myself more to what I love. You know, being happy and living life and all that. That being said, I haven't necessarily stuck to those lists and more or less have lived my life with a 'go with the flow' attitude. People ask me, "what are your plans for this afternoon/tomorrow/your life?" Truth is, I find myself more and more not having a plan. Simply put, I see what the day brings as it comes...and I'm okay with that.

This year, however, was marginally different. I created a list (crazy I know), but so far I'm actually sticking to it. Mind you it's only February, but I guess you could say I'm happy with my progress. The list included goals such as: dance more, save for and buy a car, wake up earlier (it's worth a shot) and be more social. All achievable of course, but one that really stood out and that I believe I have stood by the most was, "be creative in more ways than one". See, I consider myself a creative person, having an immense passion for all things #artsy. This passion usually extended so far as drawing and painting, primarily focussing on expressing myself through art in general. But in this new age we find ourselves in, there are so many more platforms to express yourself.

This blog being one of them.

Along with this blog, I've taken an increased interest in posting quality images to my Instagram account (bridgetmidgetdigit - yay for self-advertising, sneaky) along with producing frequent uploads to this blog and my Youtube channel (MeltedToasty Mind - yeah, I see what you did there). I've been reasonably regular with all of these accounts. if I do say so myself.

Recently however, I've extended myself even further in the creative field.
Heard of those annual musical mashups of hit songs, produced by icons such as DJ Earworm or Popdanthology?

Yeah well, I tried that.

It was a task, I will say, making it flow and sound somewhat 'okay' and 'groovy', but here is what I came up with:

With a mix and a mash of Chris Brown, Paramore, Will I Am and Imagine Dragons, I created this minute and a half of 'music', if you can call it that. Having very little knowledge of the technical side of music, I made this purely on what sounded kind of cool. As a first attempt I'm reasonably happy with it and wouldn't mind making another one, hopefully a lot better than this one.

In the end, whether this turned out good or bad, I'm happy that I could be creative in another field. A field I know very little about, but was still able to produce something different. Currently, I'm loving extending myself and creativity on different platforms. Whether it be on Youtube, Instagram, Blogger, makeup or art itself, it's a great feeling trying something new out of your comfort zone if it means you are fulfilling that creative urge (look at me getting all inspirational).

In closing, although this post had little to no structure in regards to T.E.E.L, in a simply put message: do what you love, whether you have a plan or not, and extend yourself so you can feel happy with how you are spending your life.

But most importantly...

Stay splendid,

Terrifying Childhood Experiences (and Nightmares!)

As I look back on my childhood, my memories may not be as accurate to what actually happened... but I'm here to share with you what went down when I was a kid that I thought was pretty scary at the time. Enjoy!

Stranger Danger:

So one fine afternoon when I was in my early primary school years, my family was having lunch in the park. For whatever reason I remember we were feasting on some good old KFC at the table. Before we started eating I wanted to have a quick go on the playground that was slightly down the hill. The playground had some equipment that included the very appealing (at the time) spinning around device whereby you stand on this little 'plate' like structure and hold on for dear life to the pole. I gathered enough momentum to spin myself around at a speed I was happy with, satisfied that this would not make me too dizzy or ill. I was nearly ready to jump off as I was ready for food and was feeling pretty dizzy. However, to my horror, this crusty, old, bearded man came up to where I was spinning and said, "Do you want to go faster??". I was stunned into silenced however still managed to communicate my disapproval by shaking my head. Nevertheless, this stranger insisted by turning me faster. I held on for dear life, waiting for it to slow down again. As it did, I remember walking back to my family and telling them about the strange man, however I don't remember where he went after I had left the playground. Probably my most terrifying stranger encounter as a child!

Can't. Run. Faster:

This story, thankfully, was a dream (or should I say nightmare?), but it still left me on edge nonetheless. With the fear of stranger-danger imbedded into my mind, this was a reoccurring nightmare that I dreamt a few times as a child. I was playing on the street, as you did in those days with the neighbourhood kids, and suddenly this car pulled up. Out of this car, came a Greek-looking man with long, black, flowing hair (don't ask, I have no idea). And, like any crazed man in a terrifying dream, he was chasing me. Typical. So, like any scared kid I ran in the opposite direction. However, of course my legs had to be in SLOW MOTION. I am struggling to run faster up my reasonably steep driveway but no, I can't, because my dream decides to make me a horrifyingly slow runner. But my nightmare ends there, leaving me unknowing to whether I escaped the oddly enough good looking menace.

'Straya Dreamin':

In typical Australian fashion, this next nightmare I had as a child doesn't include the scary monster under the bed, but a crocodile. Yeah. This was a short dream minutes before waking up, however scared me enough to include on this blog. So as a child, I would usually sleep right on the edge of my bed with one arm hanging down almost touching the floor. So, as if invited, the crocodile under my bed had a bite at my arm and attempted to yank it either off or under the bed. As I woke from the impact and 'pulling' of my arm, which wasn't real, I found myself teetering on the side of my bed more than usual nearly one with the floor. Safe to say I haven't dangled even the slightest phalange off the side of the bed since.

Stay Splendid,
